Apple iPhone XI

Apple is expecting its 6.5-inch iPhone XI Plus to be its most popular new handset of 2018, a new report claims.

The Korean language article claims that Apple is forecasting 45 million iPhone XI Plus shipments for later this year, around 25 million for the 5.8-inch iPhone XI, and 30 million for the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone 9. The iPhone XI Plus is set to be easily Apple’s largest iPhone of all time — and close to twice the size of the original first-gen iPhone.

Apple doesn’t provide detailed breakdowns of how its phone models sell compared to one another, for competitive reasons. That means that it’s difficult to gauge exactly how the ratio of its handsets breaks down in terms of sales. However, if the iPhone XI Plus really does manage to sell significantly more than the other 2018 iPhones, it should once again put paid to the theory that Apple is pricing people out of the market with its top-of-the-line iPhones. (Since the iPhone XI Plus is guaranteed to be Apple’s most expensive new phone of 2018.)

If the iPhone XI Plus is indeed Apple’s top-selling iPhone for 2018, that may also help explain a recent report, claiming that Apple is planning to ditch its proposed 4-inch iPhone SE 2. While I personally like the smaller SE form factor, it seems that Apple could have noticed a trend: that the bigger the iPhone screen, the more units Apple sells.
